I remember the early days of dining solo. I carried a notepad and sat alone with a glass of wine. I journaled but must have appeared to be writing something very important because I was twice mistaken for a food critic. I guess the journaling just gave me something to do while I sat solo in a restaurant- something that used to feel uncomfortable. Between work trips and last minute getaways, where coordinating schedules with a companion just wasn't possible, I've dined solo often. I've come to know that there is something cool and sort of mysterious about dining alone. Now, I have no qualms about enjoying a bit of "me" time. And there are places where dining alone doesn't feel lonely at all. Here are a few favorite solo dining experiences.
This month's new find: Quarterdeck Restaurant Hilton Head South Carolina
Widely regarded as one of the premier dining venues on Hilton Head Island, the Quarterdeck provides an exceptional experience that allows solo guests to savor not only exquisite cuisine but also the breathtaking beauty of the island's famous sunsets. Situated adjacent to the iconic Harbour Town lighthouse, the restaurant boasts a unique location that enhances its charm and appeal. The true highlight of the Quarterdeck is undoubtedly its stunning rooftop oyster bar, which offers an unparalleled 270-degree panoramic view of the picturesque Harbour Town and the serene Calibogue Sound. This vantage point is particularly enchanting during the golden hour, when the sky transforms into a canvas of vibrant colors, casting a warm glow over the entire area. It is the perfect backdrop for solo diners seeking a moment of tranquility while enjoying a meal. While dining solo is perfectly enjoyable, with the opportunity to reflect and unwind amidst the stunning views, the Quarterdeck is also a wonderful place to meet new friends and connect with fellow food enthusiasts. The communal seating options at the oyster bar encourage social interaction, making it easy for guests to strike up conversations and share their dining experiences. Whether you are looking for a peaceful evening alone or a lively night out with new acquaintances, the Quarterdeck offers an inviting ambiance that caters to both preferences, ensuring that every visit is memorable.
